JEFF GUENTHER – 30 YEARS SPECIALIZING IN PART MARKING SYSTEMS & SERVICES!

It was 30 years ago, on the morning of August 6th, 1989 that I started working alongside my grandfather in a machine shop. I was not even finished school yet but worked every day even around a class schedule. From that day forward, I prepared blanks and related tooling for Custom Engraved Steel Stamping Dies and other accessories to support various Marking Solutions all intended to make it easier and more efficient for manufacturers to identify their parts professionally and permanently. These technologies have allowed them to build brand recognition and take responsibilities for the quality of their products through barcoding, lot numbering, serialization and other forms of traceability in virtually all industries from Aerospace to Nuclear, Medical-Surgical, Steel Industry, Machine & Tool, Plastics Processing and so much more.
I have continued to focus my energies in this very same direction every day since. Today, 30 Years later my company Millennium Signatures Marking Systems Inc., continues to provide even the most hi-tech manufacturing companies of today with the latest Marking capabilities and provide integration services. We have also created a very unique “Custom Part Marking Services” division that allows some clients with highly specialized requirements or smaller volumes to draw upon those 30 years of experience and our dynamic range of processes by bringing their parts to us for processing. We have built a procedure that allows us to assess the application, prepare any artwork, necessary fixturing, material handling etc., and mark the customers’ parts to their exact specifications following a fast and efficient “First Article Inspection Process”. We can now mark most customers parts to their complete satisfaction using any one of several technologies cost-effectively and efficiently typically returned next day or in some cases 1-2 day turn-around depending on volumes and the particulars.
A unique blend of in-house manufacturing and exclusive distribution of some of the very best marking equipment has allowed Millennium Signatures to fill out and offer a dynamic range of high-quality solutions including Galvo Driven Fibre Laser Marking Technology, Computerized Dot Peen Indent Marking & Scribing from our Marksman Series Products and many of our tried & true processes that date back even long before my time such as Electro-Chemical Etching and Custom Engraved Stamping Dies and Inserts etc., plus many more.
We have come to learn that a large inventory in our business is very important. When manufacturers go off-line with their Part Marking for whatever the reason, they need quality solutions available fast and Millennium Signatures Marking Systems has invested a great deal of time and money into making that possible for our continuously growing list of clients.

MARKSMAN SERIES MARKING SYSTEMS – EASE OF USE

One of the beautiful things about our Marksman Series Products is its straight forward ease of use.
We ship these systems throughout North & South America on a daily basis and for those who are not close to one of our distribution partners, someone with no familiarity can be operational and marking parts in 15 minutes with instruction over the phone of by watching short video clips sent by e-mail. Within your first hour, you will know everything you need to know to operate these Marking Machines on a daily basis.
The interface is a simple 7 step process which you tab from step to step in a clockwise configuration on the stand-alone controllers or from left to right in the case of the optional software for PCs.

– F3 EDIT SCREEN –

1. MARK TYPE
Select the type of Mark you’re looking make ie. Standard LINEAR, RADIAL (Arc), GRAPHIC (PLT), MATRIX (2D/QR Code)

2. X-AXIS
Select the starting point for the bottom left corner of your first character on your X-AXIS

3. Y-AXIS
Select the starting point for the bottom left corner of your first character on your Y-AXIS

4. ANGLE
Select the angle at which you want your words/image to print. Straight horizontal along the X-Axis is zero 0 degrees

5. CHARACTER HEIGHT
Select the height of the characters you wish to print in this BLOCK in millimetres.

6. PITCH
Select the pitch also known as the compression of the character. If the PITCH is set to the same value as the character height than the character will be a normally proportioned character with 3/4 its height being its width. So if a typical 3mm character is desired, the pitch or (PX ) value should also be set to 3mm. If you are bound by spec to six (6) characters at a stipulated height 3mm but you only have physical room for five (5) and you need to compress the width of characters you could set your height value (CH) at 3mm and your pitch (PX) value at 2.6mm. This will compress the width of the characters some allowing you to fit more characters into a given area.

7. VARIABLE DATA
The last step is actually where you type in the data you wish to print in this BLOCK. In the case of a Barcode, you would type in the content of what the code would ultimately contain and the system will generate the code to contain that data.

Following these 7 easy progressional steps, you can go to the F2 Screen and activate the marking process.

There is the process of saving a layout and recalling or “loading” a previously saved layout. There are some other features such as the F7 Feature allowing you to view your marking layout in relation to the physical limitations of your marking area and a few other features that can be helpful in certain situations, but overall it’s just about that easy.

We have helped hundreds of companies go from opening the box to fully operations from remote locations in as little as 15 minutes and as much as an hour depending on the configuration of the system they are using and their computer skills and familiarity with basic CNC type equipment.

Getting the job done right does not have to be complicated!

MARKSMAN SERIES LARGE FIELD ROTARY MARKER (EASTEC 2019)

Marksman’s Dynamic Large Field Rotary Marker will be on display at this year’s Eastec Exhibition in West Springfield Massachusetts next week (May 14,15 and 16 of 2019)

This unique system offers a Large 250mm x 250mm Marking Area making it super versatile for large components, multiple component marking and populating variable data on Metal Nameplates. This system is equipped with our Extended Height T-500-H Heavy Duty Manual Adjustable Z-Axis Tool Post which securely supports the large Marking Head Format while offering additional height allowing taller components to be marked.

As with previous generations of our Rotary Models, this equipment is equipped with a very heavy duty Precision Rotary Drive and 3-Jaw Chuck or Collet Assembly.

Standard models can accommodate a 6.0” (15.24cm) diameters component. We can also modify this machine to accommodate larger diameters as needed. This system is a Ball Screw Driven Design which boasts the highest level of accuracy and repeatability available. It offers marking speeds of up to 5 characters per second (2.5mm) and is highly efficient at marking text of various fonts, mirror image characters, vector images (logos), 2D Barcodes, QR Codes, 2D Matrix and UID Code Technology. These systems are very robust with no cast components. All Precision machines components go into this very unique Marking System.

The most valuable feature of this machine in our opinion is the Positive Locating Rotary Axis Slide Feature. This prevents you from having to manually set-up and align the rotary System to your Marking Head each time. The rotary axis stays aligned and can slide in to use and lock in place in one (1) second.

If you need to use the system to mark a Nameplate or a flat component, unlock your rotary Axis, slide it out from under the marking head, pull up your new program and you’re Marking Flat stock. Do the same two steps again and you’re back marking Round stock. It’s that easy!

BALL SCREW vs PRECISION REINFORCED COG BELT Driven Dot Peen Marking Systems

Millennium Signatures “Marksman Series” Computerized Dot Peen Marking Systems is a comprehensive collection of equipment models, all offering their own unique features and abilities.
Among their many differences, they can be quite easily divided simply into two (2) groups just by the drive technology they are equipped with.
We have the Precision Reinforced Cog Belt Driven models and the slightly higher-end Ball Screw Driven models. While it’s true the Ball Screw Technology does have some advantages over the Reinforced Cog Belt Driven models, don’t fall into the thinking that the Reinforced Cog Belt Driven Systems are inferior or not worthy for those of you who believe strongly in buying a good product and doing things right the first time!
It is true that Ball Screw is a little more precise and does have better registration, repeatability long term, but the reality is they really only show an advantage in some situations. For example, if you are doing Machine-Readable Codes all the time on a regular production basis and your markings are not only required to be clean, sharp and precise to the naked eye, but also to today’s world of high definition scanning technology, then yes there would be an advantage to going to a Ball Screw Design for the very best possible code generation. Ball Screw is also beneficial when it comes to longer distances as in the X or Y-Axis travel of your Marking Head. Our Model MH-250 Marking Head which features a larger marking area of 250mm (9,84”) x 250mm (9.84”) is an example of where we use the Ball Screw Drive mechanism because it allows for us to maintain a tighter tolerance over a greater span. If we build custom Marking Heads for a customer that cover an even larger span, naturally we would continue to stay with the Ball Screw Drive.
Ball Screw is also a little longer lasting, so should your machine be running around the clock or performing a very high number of cycles every hour ongoing then this might be a reason to invest in the slightly more expensive Ball Screw Driven Technology. Ball Screw Systems also yield some additional benefit when marking really small characters. The extra precision of these units will start to show when marking characters under 2.0mm in height with one of our precision marking tips such as the PH-16 or the LP-06.
However, eight or nine of every ten Computerized Dot Peen Marking Systems sold are based on the Precision Reinforced Cog Belt Driven Technology and it is not to be underestimated. It is remarkable the character generation and repeatability these systems provide, year after year. They are also highly proficient at Barcodes such as 2D Matrix, UID and QR codes, it’s only recommended to upgrade if these markings are very high in volume.
When demonstrating these systems, most clients will not even ask to see the Ball Screw Driven models as they feel it is not at all necessary. The marking is extremely clean and the codes read perfectly. The feedback we get from clients that have owned these systems for years, consistently indicates that they continue to perform like new. There is no noticeable deterioration and they are very happy with the reliable, maintenance-free experience they have had.
We have a lot of great Marking Systems for you to see. Regardless which Drive Design you feel is right for you, Marksman Systems are extremely well designed, easy to use and very well priced.

New Benchtop Marking System!

We have a very exciting NEW Bench Top Marking System to tell you about.
It’s called the MK-250/200BN complete with a Heavy Duty Rotary Axis on our unique CDC-20 Positive Alignment Slide.
This system is not entirely NEW as much as it is a seamless blend of other popular Marksman Series Marking Systems. Here are the Four (4) features that make it unique and more versatile than anything else you will find on the market.

1 > This system uses our latest and most compact Controller which is packed with features such as Ethernet, USB, Read/Write SD Card and RS-232 connectivity. This very compact controller comes with an ergonomic Mount +Tray to support the Mini-Keyboard.

2 > This system also incorporated our MH-250 High-Performance Ball Screw Driven Marking Head, which boasts a generous 250mm x 250mm marking area. This is ideal for large parts, multiple parts and excellent for Large Nameplate Marking applications. You can never go wrong with the speed and precision of a Ball Screw Driven Marking Head and the Extra Large Marking Field comes in handy more often than you realize.

3> This extra large Marking Head has been Integrated with our CDC-20 Positive Alignment Slide which is also equipped with a Rotary Axis. The CDC-20 has been modified to allow for the larger parts (or tray of multiple parts) to be supported under the Marking Head. The Positive Alignment Slide Feature allows you to slide your flat part marking applications out of the way bringing in the Rotary Axis with adjustable Tail Stock all the while maintaining perfect alignment for Circumferential Marking of Cylinders. Having this feature allows you to switch out from conventional static Flat Part marking to Rotary Marking and back again if needed in seconds.

4> The last of the major features of this unique new system configuration is the addition of our extra heavy duty Rotary Axis with large 3-Jaw Chuck. It’s much larger and has more torque and accuracy than other systems you’ll find on the market. Without any customization, the Rotary Axis will mark parts up to 6.0” in diameter and part weight in excess of 35lbs. With modification, if needed, we can easily exceed these bits the system will be considered custom and built to suit. This may result in 3-4 lead time.
I promise you that if you’re looking for a Premium System with the versatility to take whatever part marking requirements come your way, this NEW system configuration will impress.
It was so impressive upon our first system build, that we immediately built up more for inventory, this system is proving to be very popular because there is nothing close to it being offered anywhere else.

IDENTITY CRISIS?

Millennium Signatures at its roots was Chem-Etch and Stamp going back almost 50 years to 1972. In those early years, the company was a leader in Electro-Chemical Etching and Steel Stamp & Die Processes and still is today. In 1987 the company took on the Distribution, Integration and Servicing of Computerized Dot Peen Marking Technology which was completely NEW at that time. It was in 1990 that a separate division of the company was formed and “Canadian Laser Technologies” was created to focus on designing, building and integrating Galvo based Nd:YAG and CO2 Lasers.
It was in 2003 that the company invested extensively in new facilities and new products and completely rebranded to become Millennium Signatures Marking Systems. A complete full-service solution for all your Part Marking and Product Identification needs. We have accumulated such an extensive client base that we expanded our focus even further and in 2006 we did a deep dive into the formulation of Custom Inks and Solvents (Printing Ink) to support Direct, Offset and Inkjet Marking System use.
Today we have multiple facilities and deal with manufacturers from virtually every sector of the manufacturing world right around the globe. The bulk of our business is throughout North and South America but we do supply product throughout Europe and many Baltic Countries also.
Today we still come across long time Etching Customers that did not know we supplied and supported Lasers, likewise some Laser customers were surprised to find we are also one of the leading sources of Computerized Dot Peen Marking Equipment and so on. So we are looking to set the record straight and let everyone know the extensive range of products & services that we provide. We stock everything needed for technical support services on everything we sell and have great technicians throughout North America to support our customers with after-sales technical support.
Today at Millennium Signatures Marking Systems Inc., we specialize in all of the following products and maintain product on the shelf for quick availability. These Products and Services include:
Custom Engraved Steel Stamp & Die, Custom Tooling & Fixturing, Computerized Dot Peen Marking Systems in Bench Top, Portable and Compact Integrator Series Marker formats, Custom Formulated Industrial Inks & Solvents including Aerospace Marking Inks & Polyurethane Protective Top Coat Products.
We also are highly specialized in Fibre and CO2 Galvo Driven Laser Marking Systems, Electro-Chemical Etching, Custom Cut Stencils, Laser Sintered Signs, Vibro Etch and Scribe Marking Technologies and we are a Manufacturer of Custom Steel & Aluminum Nameplates and high-quality Self-Adhesive Labels and Decals. Then, of course, is our very popular Custom Part Marking Services Division which you can read all about by searching #CustomPartMarking and #ContractMarking. We need to service companies with a multitude of complex requirements and we are not going to talk a customer out of a Dot Peen Marking System to sell a Laser as a Laser Company would and vice-versa. We will provide you with the solution that is right for you meeting your specifications and keeping you within your budget.

So to summarize, we are a complete Marking Systems & Services Solutions company and we are very proud of all we have accomplished over the years and thankful for the thousands of customers who choose to have us support their Product Identification processes.

If you have any questions about how we might be able to assist you, please contact our Part Marking Specialists for more information.
