CUSTOM PART MARKING SERVICES

HISTORY

Millennium Signatures Marking Systems Inc. has an extensive history of selling and supporting Part Marking Technologies or Traceability Systems to the Manufacturing sector going back as far as 1972. Despite that its principal business is to sell, integrate and support the various methods of marking, we also have a very successful Custom Part Marking Division which has been servicing hundreds of clients for almost 15 years now. We have taken our extensive knowledge of Part Marking practices and our impressive range of equipment and made our services open to any clients who do not wish to invest in the technology for one reason or another or who wish to essentially get their products out onto the field and trial the marking results before committing to a process. There are many advantages to outsourcing your marking even if just initially. Let us do the hard work for you.

EXPERTISE

Those staffing the Millennium Signatures Custom Part Marking Division have extensive knowledge of how to work the various technologies and work to even the most rigid specifications. We can take on the marking of complex part configurations much more effectively that someone new to the process. Our pricing is very effective, and our turn-around times are said to be “excellent” based on feedback from our existing client base. Some of our clients bring their parts to us because they’re volumes are too low to justify an equipment purchase, others just don’t have the time or expertise. However, our Custom Part Marking Services provides another very valuable option for those considering buying their own equipment.

ADVANTAGES

If you send your parts to Millennium Signatures Marking Systems for processing, we will design proper fixturing that will positively locate and secure your part during the marking process. We will create layouts and programs allowing the chosen technology to execute the marking sequence properly and we will always provide First Article Samples or detailed photos to the client before proceeding with marking a batch of their parts. You can pay us to mark a single batch of your parts or you can bring us batches of parts for marking for years and years. When you’re ready to make a purchase, Millennium Signatures will not only outfit you with the proven hardware selection we use to process your parts, but we will bring our NEW equipment to your facility, install it and train your operators. The beautiful thing is that we will hand over all the fixtures, programs, layouts, stencils, artwork or any other production aids that we used to mark your parts, so you are now instantly in production. You will have absolutely everything you need to make the perfect impression from the time we walk out of your facility. Going about it in this way allows you to get the marking you need to be done (by professionals), it allows you to see and experience the results before committing to any significant cash outlay and there is never any expectation of an equipment purchase. However, if you do you will know you are selecting the right equipment for the job and you will be provided with absolutely EVERYTHING you need to get started.

PROCESSES

Our Custom Part Marking Services Division offers the following technologies which can be used to mark your parts, Electro-Chemical Etching, Engraving, Computerized Dot Peen Stamping, Ink Marking and both Fibre and CO2 Laser Marking. If you are not sure which technology is best for your application, contact our Part Marking Specialists at info@millenniumsignatures.com or by phone at (905) 639-0909 and have us evaluate your application properly and give you our recommendations.

RECOMMENDATIONS

It is strongly recommended that if you are having us process your parts for the first time, that you provide us with extra parts, scrap parts or spares. It is always best to have an actual part that we can set-up and test with before starting to run production on a good batch of parts. If a spare part is not available, it is quite possible we can still get you a perfect marking from the start, but a close second would be to get a sample piece of the very same material and surface condition as the actual parts we would be expected to mark.

If absolutely nothing is available, it is likely with our expertise that we can still get you a highly acceptable marking the first time, but it’s a much more challenging task for us and it may take longer or the first part or first few parts of that batch may be less than ideal before we manage to dial the settings in just right to secure a perfect marking for all the rest. There is no other alternative, however with all that we see on any given day our chances of getting a highly acceptable mark is much better than for most anyone else.

POLICIES

We often see hundreds and sometimes thousands of parts processed in our facilities each day. We have an unbelievable record for accuracy and acceptability among our clients, but things can happen for a multitude of reasons ranging from very confusing instructions from clients to inconsistencies in the product to hardware/software failures and on occasion even human error. We have created a process whereby we evaluate the client’s job, we review the materials sent. We prepare a sample and we either send the sample to the client for an approval (if time permits) or in most cases, we are asked to take good quality close-up images of the marking results and transmit them electronically to our clients for review and approval before proceeding onto multiple parts. If an error takes place that is deemed to be the fault of Millennium Signatures Marking Systems role in the processing of parts, Millennium Signatures limits its liability to the cost of remarking parts only. Millennium Signatures Marking Systems Inc. is to be in no way held responsible for the costs associated with removal of unwanted markings, recoating, reworking or replacement of customer supplied parts. There is simply too many variables and an extreme range of different products and circumstances for Millennium Signatures to take on such responsibility. Given, such circumstances, our team takes our responsibility very seriously and treats all customer supplied components with the highest levels of care and consideration.

PACKAGING & HANDLING

Please consider that we appreciate that expensive parts that are time-consuming to produce need to be protected and need to be transported carefully. Out of respect to our clients, we go through a series of procedures to ensure that our client supplied products are handled in such a manner that accidental dropping or scratching etc. is minimized if not eliminated. Our processes include handling the part as little as possible, working over anti-fatigue matting on floors and workbenches to cushion any unexpected impacts. We take the parts from any protective packaging, mark the part to specification and return immediately to the same packaged state they are received unless instructed in writing to do otherwise. Our fixturing is custom made on-site out of Plastics, Acrylics and Nylons to prevent scratching or scuffing of parts while being processed. We even wear gloves and can use a lint-free microfibre polishing cloths to clean up parts of any fingerprints if they are decorative parts such as chrome fixtures etc.

MACHINE-READABLE CODES

Did you know that the Marksman Computerized Dot Peen Marking Technology from Millennium Signatures Marking Systems Inc. gives you the ability to mark your parts with 2D Barcodes, Military Spec UID Codes and QR Codes as well?

2 DIMENSIONAL CODES (2D)
Marking a 2D Code directly onto your part using our Computerized Dot Peen or Galvo Driven Laser Processes allows you to enter data such as work order #’s, Part #’s Lot #’s, Date Codes, pretty much any data at all into the system and have it automatically convert that data into square code that our equipment will allow you to permanently mark onto your parts. This code can be scanned using just about any of today’s readily available scanning technology and even very reliably with free apps, you can download for your smartphone cameras. This eliminates the concerns for labels coming off and potentially losing track of what revision of part you actually hold in your hand. It will always be there and easily accessible. It makes it very easy to track and inventory parts and can be very helpful in communicating with processes as they travel through automated production lines. For example, you can have parts scanned as they go through a process and rejected if parts should somehow become mixed or parts that are a fail can be marked to permanently confirm such important details.

UID CODES
UID Codes are a unique format of this 2Dimensional (2D Code) Technology that has been designed by the Military for their products and is often expected of manufacturers who are bidding to get such contracts that they will have the capability to mark the parts they would produce using this unique 2D Symbology.

QR CODES
QR Codes can be equally powerful, perhaps even more so in many ways.
A QR Code is essentially a Hyperlink to a URL Address or File. For example, if you host your QR Code with Millennium Signatures or even through other sources, you can permanently print a small square code onto your part that will remain there long after any sticker, plate or other methods of marking would be lost due to any one of several variable elements of conditions.
When scanning this code, it can immediately pull up a website or take you to a drawing or a document such as an entire manual potentially hundreds of pages of content if need be. There is really no limitations.
As long as that code is being hosted, the scanning of the code can instantly link anyone it’s a Barcode Scanner or Smartphone with a wealth of information about that part or product and it’s all controlled by you.
This information could even be changed after the mark is made potentially. Allow us to explain…..

POSSIBLE SCENARIOS
You build an assembly for Natural Gas Furnaces and there is some information such as exploded parts view, parts number listing and some installation and safety guidelines you always want available to your client.
This means when it’s NEW out of the box of when being pulled out of a 20-year-old Furnace under repair. You completely control what information is instantly (almost magically) provides to your customer when scanned.
However….. 4 years after production of this part, it is determined that there is a defect in the parts from manufacture or there is some reason to recall the parts. It is possible to redirect where the link that code represents a different destination or a REVISED or UPDATED destination or document. For example, a technician in the field could now remove this part and scan it with his cell phone only to learn immediately that there is a recall notice out on that part and instructions on what to do about it as a result. It is incredibly powerful if you know how to use it to its full potential.

Both Millennium Signatures Galvo Driven Laser Etching / Engraving Technologies and our Marksman Series Computerized Dot Peen (Impact Stamping) process’ can provide such markings. The beautiful thing about these Codes is not only are they so easy to create and apply to the part, they are also very permanent. If you pull a dirty, greasy part of a piece of equipment, just give it a wipe off or a scuff with a Scotch Brite Abrasive Pad or something similar and give it a scan. It’s permanently on the surface of the metal, plastic, porcelain or almost any material and will almost always produce for you when needed.

NEW Galvo Driven Laser Marking System!

New Galvo Driven Laser Marking System for 2018

Do you have a Class I Galvo Driven Laser Marking System and an operator who stands idle in front of the machine for anywhere from 30 seconds per part to potentially a few minutes for every batch of parts loaded into the Laser Marker? If you have high volumes of product to Laser Mark, this time spent idle can greatly increase the overall time needed to process the parts you need.
Consider the freshly redesigned Galvo Driven (Class I) Rotary Dial Index Laser Marking System for 2018 by TYKMA Electrox supplied by Millennium Signatures Marking Systems Inc.
This system is designed for additional efficiency over conventional Box Marking Enclosures with Manual or Automatic Door Systems.
These systems have a robust rotary table that is set-up to rotate 180 Degrees upon command at the end of each “marking cycle”. This allows an operator to be unloading parts that have just been marked and reload the fixture with fresh new parts at the very same time as the parts previously fixtured on the other half of the table are actively being marked. Once the cycle is complete and fresh (unmarked) product has been loaded there is a touch activation process that requires both hands to rotate the new parts in for processing at the same time as finished parts are presented back to the operator for unloading.
It’s a safe process, the Laser System is designed to provide Class I protection with a KG-3 Protective Viewing Window and integrates light curtains that will instantly stop the system in its tracks should the light curtain be interrupted or obstructed why the table is rotating.
It’s a much faster, more efficient process for applications that have high volumes of the same parts to be marked.
For more information on this system and various other system designs, contact our Technical Sales Team at Tel: (905) 639-0909 or by e-mail at info@millenniumsignatures.com.

What is Electro-Chemical Etching?

WHAT IS ELECTRO-CHEMICAL ETCHING?(Manual Marking Set-up)

ELECTRO-CHEMICAL ETCHING PROCESS

WHAT IS ELECTRO-CHEMICAL ETCHING?
Electro-Chemical Etching is a very cost effective, easy to use process that allows you to put high quality markings (identification) onto your metal parts permanently without causing any damage to the surface or structural integrity of the component. The process takes just a couple of minutes to perform and allows you to put virtually any Alpha-Numeric Text, Symbols, Logo’s, Schematics, Warnings, 2D Matrix Codes and much more onto a metal surface regardless of how hard the metal might be. In fact the harder the metal the better the results often are. Ideal for difficult marking applications such as Carbide and Titanium, the Chemical Etching Process is extremely versatile for those working with conductive metals. The systems can deliver white or “clear” markings on Black Oxide coatings for maximum contrast and beautiful dark (almost black) high contrast results on white metals. The information being etched is the result of a stencil that is made. For Logos and high volume marking applications where the information stays the same, Millennium Signatures can produce Long Life Fabric Stencils which can deliver sharp crisp marking results over and over again potentially marking hundreds, if not thousands of parts. For those applications where variable information is required and changing constantly, we have Stencil Imprinting Systems and Disposable Stencil Paper Product that allow you to make good quality stencils quickly and easily  on-demand using a computer.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Electro-Chemical Etching or “Chemical Etching” as it is most commonly referred, is a little like a miniature EDM process. It uses safe sodium based solutions combined with a pulsing low voltage electrical current to dissolve the metal and extract it through the stencil into a special cloth pad known as a Monopad in just seconds. At the same time as you are removing small trace amounts of material, you are creating and oxide which permanently remains in the aperture or cavity of the mark. This is what gives the mark its high contrast result, making the marking easy to see and pleasing to the eye. This process is not new, this process has been around and continuously developed since the 1950’s and it is very popular for use on everything Chef’s Knives, to Metal Tooling, to the Landing Gear on Military and Commercial Aircraft just to name a couple. There are thousands upon thousands of applications for this extremely versatile process.
The marking is permanent! How permanent is a function of how deep into the metal you allow the process to go. For manufacturers of Food Preparation Equipment or Medial Instruments and/or Implants who do not want a cavity in the product that could harbor bacteria or other contaminants, high contrast markings of just a few tenths of a thousandth of an inch are used (0.002″), however you can also purchase equipment that is more powerful and has features allowing you to mark up to depths of 0.012″ if required. This would be typical of an Aerospace Application where long lasting identification is a must and needs to even be easily view-able after layers of protective paint are applied.
The process has a long list of valuable benefits which appeal to most industries including, Aerospace, Nuclear, Precision Tooling, Medical/Surgical, Instruments and more…
